Main Street at Hogans Creek will reopen Monday afternoon, March 20, 2017 after being closed due to an inspection that found the concrete structure over the creek unsafe for motor vehicles.
The $2,097,700 project began in July of 2016 and required construction crews to replace the existing box culvert structure with a new bridge, protect and restore historical elements and repair existing drainage along the corridor.
During construction, crews used ground-penetrating radar to identify and record trolley car rails originally part of the City of Jacksonville’s early 20th century trolley car system. In conjunction with the State Historical Preservation Office and SEARCH, the Springfield Improvement Association and Archives was able to recover more than 300 original bricks from the site and the City of Jacksonville Historic Preservation Office was able to recover nearly 20 feet of trolley tracks.
Hal Jones Contractor, Inc of Jacksonville was awarded the project. England, Thims & Miller, Inc. served as the Construction Engineering Inspection and Management team of the project for the FDOT.
