The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hosting an open house for the area’s first Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at Interstate 95 and will also include current construction projects along State Road A1A (SR 200) from Still Quarters Road to County Road 107/O’Neil-Scott Road in Nassau County. Current projects span a distance of approximately eight and a half miles along State Road A1A (SR 200).

The open house is Thursday, February 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Florida State College Nassau, in the Nassau Conference Center (76348 William Burgess Boulevard, Yulee, FL 32097).

Those interested can drop by anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to learn more about the project including timeframe, construction activities, traffic impacts and other details. Project staff will be available at the meeting to answer questions. Since this is an informal open house, no presentation is scheduled.

The project begins west of Interstate 95 to west of Still Quarters Road.  Plans include widening the roadway from four lanes to six lanes with raised medians, curb and gutter, sidewalks and bicycle lanes. This project will include the addition of a new Diverging Diamond under Interstate 95 and interchange lighting. The DDI will be the first in Northeast Florida, and only the second in the state. It is a unique configuration that will have significant safety improvements, in addition to easing the traffic flow for one of the area’s major hurricane evacuation corridors.

The project began construction in January and is expected to be completed by summer 2020. J.B. Coxwell Contracting, Inc. of Jacksonville and Construction Management Services: Eisman & Russo have been hired to complete the work for FDOT.  Construction cost is $40 million.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability or family status as FDOT complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Persons who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or persons who require translation services (free of charge) should call Odette Struys, Public Information Officer at: 904-360-5582 or e-mail: Odette.Struys@dot.state.fl.us seven days prior to the meeting.
