Law enforcement officers will assist with the closure and detour. The roadway will reopen early if work is completed ahead of schedule or could be closed longer if there are weather delays.

CSX Transportation, Inc. will replace the two existing railroad crossings with concrete crossings designed to last longer and hold up better under heavy traffic. The project also includes resurfacing the crossing area, installing ADA mats and repairing sidewalks and a center median. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is overseeing the project.

Sidewalks on all four corners of the crossing will be repaired.

…and what the area will look like after. Railroad crossings were replaced, sidewalks were repaired and ADA mats were installed at the Beaver Street and Edgewood Avenue crossing, located a few miles east of the Lane Avenue and Beaver Street crossing, last summer.

Rail is an important component of a healthy economy. It is a cost effective way to move people and goods efficiently, ultimately saving companies and people money. Rail is also a part of Florida’s Strategic Intermodal System (SIS).

The SIS was established to:

  • Efficiently serve the mobility needs of Florida’s citizens, businesses and visitors; and
  • Help Florida become a worldwide economic leader, enhance economic prosperity and competitiveness, enrich quality of life and reflect responsible environmental stewardship.

The community’s patience is appreciated during this railroad closure so that FDOT and CSX Transportation, Inc., can maintain this important method of transportation.
