Lane Avenue (State Road 103) is scheduled to completely close and all traffic will detour in the immediate area of the Beaver Street (U.S. 90) railroad crossing for 10 days beginning Thursday, August 4, at 6 a.m. The road is scheduled to reopen Saturday, August 13, by 6 p.m., weather permitting.
A one-mile detour will be in place during the closure. Drivers traveling north on Lane Avenue will detour to Highway Avenue, Cassat Avenue and Beaver Street and drivers traveling south on Lane Avenue will detour to Beaver Street, Cassat Avenue and Highway Avenue.
Law enforcement officers will assist with the closure and detour. The roadway will reopen early if work is completed ahead of schedule or could be closed longer if there are weather delays.
CSX Transportation, Inc. will replace the two existing railroad crossings with concrete crossings designed to last longer and hold up better under heavy traffic. The project also includes resurfacing the crossing area, installing ADA mats and repairing sidewalks and a center median. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is overseeing the project.
Rail is an important component of a healthy economy. It is a cost effective way to move people and goods efficiently, ultimately saving companies and people money. Rail is also a part of Florida’s Strategic Intermodal System (SIS).
The SIS was established to:
- Efficiently serve the mobility needs of Florida’s citizens, businesses and visitors; and
- Help Florida become a worldwide economic leader, enhance economic prosperity and competitiveness, enrich quality of life and reflect responsible environmental stewardship.
The community’s patience is appreciated during this railroad closure so that FDOT and CSX Transportation, Inc., can maintain this important method of transportation.
