Atlantic Blvd/Arlington Expressway project to enhance safety, mobility

final aerial roll FM_ 430911-1A safety project to revamp the Atlantic Blvd/Arlington Expressway interchange near Regency Mall started work earlier this month.

FDOT is hosting a construction open house for the project today (January 21) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Regency Square Library, Community Room A, 9900 Regency Square Blvd.

The project is designed to improve traffic movements in and around Regency Square Mall and will include reconstructing the eastbound Arlington Expressway; reconstructing Atlantic Boulevard from the west entrance road to Regency Square Mall and Monument Road and providing additional turn lanes. The construction is expected to take one year to complete.

The majority of the work will be done at night and lane closures will only be allowed during nighttime hours. Specifically, the contractor will operate under the following restrictions:

  • No daytime lane closures allowed between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on the entire project.
  • Single lane closures will be allowed between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the entire project.
  • Multiple lane closures will be allowed between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the entire project.

The same number of traffic lanes that are currently open are required to be open during daytime hours. Most work will be completed behind a barrier wall. The contractor will build temporary pavement to shift traffic away from construction activities. Though primarily a safety project, the improvements will aid businesses in and around the Regency Square Mall by improving traffic flow.
