FDOT District Two Teams with Kart Racing for Roadway Safety

Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) District Two, Northeast Florida, teamed with Sweet Motorsports and the Florida Dirt Championship Series for kart racing in Jasper, Fla., on September 19. Approximately 400 karts were registered for the day and night racing event. FDOT co-sponsored the event to promote traffic, bike and pedestrian safety.

Florida has an enhanced child restraint law: Every motor vehicle operator in Florida is required to use a crash-tested, federally approved child restraint device for children until age 6. Northeast Florida’s Community Traffic Safety Team has put together an informative video about the new law.

The purpose of a center-line rumble stripe is to alert drivers that they may be inadvertently crossing into oncoming traffic. This is the first center-lane to have a rumble stripe in Northeast Florida. It is the hope of the Department that this extra precaution will help crack down on distracted driving and prevent unnecessary crashes.
